What is a DSA SF Priority Campaign?
A Priority Campaign is an intersectional and cross-chapter effort to achieve measurable goals in no more than three priority topics per year. With this focus, we are able to dedicate labor, money, and time to those areas we democratically determine are most important to winning socialism and advancing our Chapter’s work. Our Priority Campaigns for 2024-2025 are:
Socialist Power Grab
Email: electoral@dsasf.org
In 2024, we organized campaigns to elect two members of the Board of Supervisors: Dean Preston and Jackie Fielder. We also campaigned in support of San Francisco Ballot Measure L to provide affordable public transit through tax on rideshare companies, State Ballot Measure 33 to expand rent-controlled housing, and State Ballot Measure 5 to reduce the threshold required to democratically fund affordable housing. Jackie Fielder’s campaign was successful, and she is now the Supervisor for San Francisco’s District 9. A summary of our campaigns, and recommendations for future changes to our electoral program based on learnings from these campaigns is available to chapter members at dsasf.org/retro.
Now, this priority has changed focus to connect the chapter with Jackie Fielder’s office and support her important work in bringing change and improvement to San Francisco. All are encouraged to join the Electoral Board’s Office Hours with Jackie Fielder’s staff via Zoom each Friday at 3:00 PM. See DSASF.org/events for details.
Our Chapter has a strong history of successful electoral work – including Dean Preston’s 2019 Supervisor race, 2018’s Prop F for a universal Right to Counsel, 2022’s Props M and H, and Jackie Fielder’s 2024 campaign. This year’s priority follows in this vein of winning electoral campaigns that improve the lives of working class people and grow the socialist movement in San Francisco.
Community Building Priority
The community-building priority aims to raise the profile and visibility of the DSA and its work across the city.
To do so, the priority will embark on a year-long project, utilizing the chapter’s existing working groups and members to build city-wide connections. These connections might involve outreach and recruitment, building coalitions with other socialist campaigns or organizations, and engaging the public through tabling events
We believe that there are many people in the city who are sympathetic to our goals and the projects we are working on, but we understand that we must also be intentional about introducing and engaging people to our socialist cause.
This priority aims to both amplify our work across the city and cultivate strong, lasting connections within the wider San Francisco community.
We are open to having new and existing members who are interested in sharing ideas or leading this work! Opportunities can include organizing tabling and outreach events, social media communications and strategy, among other things. Reach out to your onboarder to get plugged in!
