Let’s face it: things aren’t good right now. The system is bad and rigged against us. Capitalism is designed to strip us of our agency and our dignity, and our ability to live long, joyful lives. We’re forced to work long hours for low pay — exploited to make profits for our bosses and landlords.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is an organization that believes it doesn’t have to be like this. Another world is possible.
We’re the San Francisco chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and alongside hundreds of chapters nationwide, we’re working to build a better world. Founded in the early 1980s, DSA SF has long been committed to fighting economic inequality, worker exploitation, and the undemocratic nature of capitalism in our city.
We have a proud history in San Francisco. One of our founding members, Harry Britt, was appointed to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1979 following the assassination of gay rights activist Harvey Milk. Since then, DSA SF members have been on the front lines, advocating for workers in San Francisco and beyond.
The chapter reformed in 2016, ignited by a desire to defeat Donald Trump and inspired by the presidential run of Senator Bernie Sanders. Since then, we’ve been pretty busy!
DSA SF is an all-volunteer, member-driven organization. We make decisions democratically in our monthly membership meetings, which are open to all. Between meetings, our members work together in different committees and campaigns. To get involved, swing by an upcoming event or join DSA today.
